Nepal's
spectacular diversity appears at its finest The deep valleys
and high mountains encircling the giant Annapurna Himal
embrace a wide range of peoples and terrain, from subtropical
jungle to a high, dry landscape resembling the Tibetan
Plateau. The Annapurna Nepal region is most popular trekking
region, attracting over 75% of all trekkers (more than
30.000 annually). The circuit takes one around the Annapurna
Himal, following the courses of 2 mighty rivers: the Marsyangdi
in the east and the Kaligandaki in the west, and takes
one over the 5416m-high Thorung La Pass in between the
upper reaches of the rivers. The Kaligandaki is the world’s
deepest gorge, flanked by the giant Dhaulagiri and Annapurna
Himals. The flora, geography and culture also change dramatically
around the circuit.
The trek follows ancient paths used
as trade routes between Nepal and Tibet. These paths have
long facilitated the flow of cultures and religions in
this remote and formerly inaccessible region. Today Tibetan
Mahayana Buddhism, Hinduism and the mysterious Bon-Po
religion still coexist and interpenetrate one another
in this region which contains many pilgrimage sites
