Nepal
is a beautiful place to go trekking and enjoy the wonderful
sights that surround you. Nepal is a place of many wonders
that allow you to indulge in everything that nature has
to offer. While trekking in Nepal you will notice the
many beautiful mountains, rivers and country side. Among
them the Langtang valley trek is famous one.The Langtang
Valley offers an opportunity to explore traditional villages,
visit the beautiful holy lakes of Gosainkund, where thousands
of Hindu pilgrims visit during a full moon festival in
August, climb peaks and visit majestic glaciers. There
are good opportunities for easy to moderate climbing along
the way and an extended exploration of the glaciers is
recommended. Lang is Tibetan for "yak" and teng
'dhang' means "to follow". Yaks can still be
seen in the valley!
Treks are typically 7-11 days depending
on how you wish to set it up and how much time you have.
You can vary the trek to Langtang by returning to Kathmandu
via the holy lakes of Gosainkund, or you can make a short
trek from Dhunche to Gosainkund.
Langtang Lirung (7246 metres) dominates
the valley to the north; Naya Kangri (5846 metres) and
Gang Chhenpo (6388 metres) lie to the south; and Dorje
Lakpa (6966 metres) protects the east end of the Langtang
valley. The Langtang region became Nepal's first Himalayan
national park in 1971.
Helambu, about 70 km north of Kathmandu,
is Sherpa country. You can include Helambu in a Langtang
trek, either via Gosainkund or across the 5106-metre Ganja
La. In winter, both of the high routes from Langtang are
usually snow .
